bernard has two parts. One part serves your published website to visitors. The other part is the editing service, where you and bernard change your site and where your forms, shop and courses run.

When the editing service is down

Your published website keeps working. The original files of your published site are held in Ireland, and Cloudflare keeps cached copies in its data centres around the world so pages load quickly for your visitors. This makes your site robust as well as fast. Each visitor is served by a Cloudflare data centre near them, and if one data centre has a problem, visitors are sent to another. A page that is already in a data centre’s cache keeps loading there even if the original files in Ireland cannot be reached for a while. Visitors can read every page, and search engines can still reach it.

What needs the editing service

These parts of a site need the editing service, and stop until it is back:

• forms (contact, enquiry and sign-up forms);
• checkout in your shop;
• course sign-in and lessons for your students;
• new sign-ins to an invitation-only site.

Backups

We back up site history, published files and media every day, and keep copies for up to 365 days. The Security Pack has the full schedule and our latest restore test.
